Access to Italian University courses of non-EU students applying for a visa follows the rules yearly published on the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) website.
Such procedures do not apply to: citizens from European Union Member States, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, San Marino, even if holding a foreign qualification; foreigners already officially residing in Italy; students who hold scholarships released by European Union education, training and research programmes.
Pre-enrolment
Before starting the enrolment, international students applying for a visa need to complete a pre-enrolment procedure in the Universitaly portal.
To apply, you will need to upload the following documents:
BACHELOR’S DEGREE COURSES AND SINGLE CYCLE MASTER’S DEGREE COURSES
- ID picture;
- Passport copy;
- Original or certified copy of final secondary education degree / previous study degree, obtained after at least 12 scholastic study years, or a fully legal substitute certificate, accompanied by either declarations from the Italian Centre ENIC-NARIC (CIMEA)*, or declarations from official foreign institutes, or a Declaration of Value (DOV) if owned by the student;
- Translation into Italian or English of the final secondary education degree / previous study degree;
- Italian (or English, depending on the course language) language proficiency certificate, if owned, with at least a B2 level according to the CEFR.
MASTER’S DEGREE COURSES (NOT SINGLE CYCLE)
- ID picture;
- Passport copy;
- Copy of final degree released by a higher education institute which allows the graduate to enroll in the next level of study course in another higher education institute located in the Country where the degree was obtained, accompanied by either declarations from the Italian Centre ENIC-NARIC (CIMEA)*, or declarations from official foreign institutes or a Declaration of Value (DOV) if owned by the student;
- Transcript of records where passed exams are reported, released by the relevant University, plus the programme of study for each subject; the programme of study can also be stated in the Diploma Supplement, if available;
- Translation into Italian or English of the documents enlisted in no. 3 and no. 4;
- Italian (or English, depending on the course language) language proficiency certificate, if owned, with at least a B2 level according to the CEFR.
*Università Politecnica delle Marche signed an agreement with CIMEA (Information Center on Mobility and Academic Equivalences – Italian center belonging to the ENIC/NARIC network) for the issue of Statements of Comparability (indicating the level of the foreign qualification with reference to the cycles of the Bologna Process and the levels of the European Qualifications Framework) and Statements of Verification (indicating that the foreign qualification was actually issued by an official body in the reference system) to international students holding a foreign qualification recognizable in Italy, with rapid deadlines and at discounted prices. Once we have evaluated your application, you will receive a confirmation of acceptance of your pre-enrolment through the UNIVERSITALY portal and you will be able to start the visa procedure at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in your Country. The visa procedure may vary according to the provisions issued by each Italian Embassy or Consulate abroad and it is the candidate’s responsibility to inquire about specific procedures and deadlines. Please note that the procedure must be completed by November 30th (deadlines may vary for limited access courses).
The Embassy will:
- issue a “Declaration of Value” (Dichiarazione di Valore) of your high school diploma/university degree;
- certify and legalize the other documents;
- issue an entry VISA for STUDY purposes to enter Italy.

Italian language knowledge assessment
Before enrolment, non-EU students applying for a visa and willing to enrol in an Italian-taught course need to prove a B2 level Italian language knowledge (CEFR). If you do not have a valid certfication, after you pre-enrol in the Universitaly portal we will contact you for an online, free test organized by Univpm.

Please check procedures and deadlines for limited access courses
In order to enroll in our University, you will need to deliver the following documents to the Faculty Registrar’s Office. Some of them are to be issued by authorities in your Country, while others are to be obtained once you arrive in Italy.
Documents to be obtained in your Country of origin:
- your previous study title translated and legalized by the competent Italian Embassy/Consulate in your Country, accompanied by the “Declaration of Value” (Dichiarazione di Valore) issued by the same authority, certifying that you have completed 12 years of schooling;
- (only for Master’s degree courses (not single cycle)) a certificate issued by the competent academic authority of your University listing the exams you have passed, marks, date of exam, credits, hours for student work. This document must be translated into Italian or English and legalized by the competent Italian Embassy/Consulate in your Country;
- (only for Master’s degree courses (not single cycle)) official study programme including all the learning activities completed to obtain the academic qualification in your Country, on the headed paper of your university, with stamp and signature, translated into Italian or English;
- English language proficiency certificate at B2 Level (for English-taught courses, if achieved);
- Italian language proficiency certificate at B2 Level (for Italian-taught courses, if achieved).
Documents to apply for and to be issued in Italy before applying for enrolment:
- copy of your passport with STUDY visa;
- enrolment application form (to be filled in online on the University website);
- copy of your residence permit or receipt confirming the application for the residence permit (only for non-EU citizens; see below for instructions);
- “Codice fiscale” (Italian Fiscal code) to be issued by “Ufficio dell’Agenzia delle Entrate” (see below).
